The secret of this business is you’ve got to have a defensive strategy, as well as an offensive strategy.

Fred Smith FedEx founder and CEO The Wall Street Journal, 14 July 2010

Peleros Aviation recognises the importance of and the benefits received from passing on to others, the experience and expertise of its exceptionally talented and knowledgeable consultants. It has, therefore, introduced tailored training courses, each with a specific focus within ATM and which cover both civil and military aviation.

The scope of the training is diverse and the format can take on various guises according to the particular requirements of each client. Significantly, the Peleros team and the consultants with whom we may collaborate on training activities, have no vested interests in any aircraft manufacturers, ANSPs, ATM organisations, services or products, European or International aviation organisations, or avionics manufacturers or suppliers, and therefore provide training with great impartiality and integrity.

In addition, and of equal importance, is that each member of the team has had regulatory responsibilities within recognised aviation authorities and all content of training activities, focus on international ATM standards, in particular those defined by ICAO.

Peleros Aviation is pleased to announce that in partnership with Adept ATM Limited, the provision of collaborative training services in the Surveillance domain, with initial focus on SSR Mode S / ADS-B. This initiative is to assist clients to understand the basic principles and complexities of these surveillance technologies, which are rapidly entering operational service throughout European airspace.

The combined experience and expertise of Adept and Peleros is unparalleled and when considered in the context of the functionality requirements standardised by ICAO and operational implementation determined by the EU and EUROCONTROL, the team is unique, independent, relevant and global.

Each member of the team has had regulatory responsibilities within the UK CAA with respect to the licensing and operation of aircraft surveillance equipment under powers delegated from the Cabinet Office. They have advised and worked globally at the highest levels of the industry in both civil and military aviation, including the drafting of European interoperability regulation that has led to two recently published EU Implementing Rules. These rules affect the airborne equipage of all commercial air transport flying into European airspace. Thus the team is uniquely qualified to offer training in that specific area and also in that which might be required by global aviation authorities wishing to update their own surveillance infrastructure.

The course covers the fundamental principles of SSR Mode S, ADS-B and military IFF including (but not limited to):

• The applicable legislation governing the current and future carriage and operation of Mode-S airborne equipment.
• The fundamental principles of Mode S, ADS-B and military IFF.
• The operational utilisation of Mode S, ADS-B and interaction with military IFF.
• The different levels of Mode S capability (Elementary and Enhanced).
• The interoperability aspects of Mode S and military use of IFF, specifically:

i. The use of Interrogator Identifier (II) codes
ii. The use of Surveillance Identifier (SI) codes
iii. The principle of lock-out
iv. The principle of lock-out override

The course is tailored to accommodate the specific needs of each client whether from a civil or military perspective.
